DESCRIPTION

The 4tube.com homepage showed a list of categories which is what I usually see for search engines. To determine whether or not it is a search engine, I clicked on a category landing page followed by a single post page and the videos on the single post opened on another domain. Thus, I determined that 4tube.com was a porn search engine. I don’t recommend porn search engines call themselves tube sites, especially not in their domain name such as 4tube.com. One feature I did like on 4tube.com was after clicking on a thumbnail on a category landing page, it changed the thumbnail picture to show a thumbs up and thumbs down so I could give it a rating. Being able to rate the videos makes users feel included in the community which can contribute to them coming back. Moreover, the overlay changed to a more greyed-out color so you know what thumbnails you have visited. I see this feature on some of the more popular porn tube sites and it’s a good one. 4tube.com listed the networks next to the titles beneath the thumbnails. I knew of all the networks that were linked to and I didn’t see any unreliable or malicious networks being linked to which is also good. When you run a search engine, the quality of the other domains matters because they are a reflection of your content, so you want them to be high quality.

I can see 4tube.com received a little bit of traffic in 2001 but then got no traffic at all for five years between the beginning of 2002 and the end of 2006.
