If you were one of the people who took to Apple.com to witness today’s event, you would have been bitterly disappointed that Apple couldn’t even get its servers up and run. If you were one of those people, I hope you found another source.

For future reference, CNET covers these things well. If you follow them on Facebook, you’ll get the direct links for the events.

So, it was rare to actually get to see an Apple event. They don’t have them available to the public or even most media outlets. Any live stream you find isn’t of the actual event, but more of the media hosts telling you what has just happened behind the closed Apple doors. I always wondered why this was, now I know. Apple servers just can’t handle the traffic, simple as that.

After listening to an event for the first time, I quickly realised how full of crap the Apple spokespeople are, and thinking of the less tech savvy watching, I felt somewhat sorry for all of those who didn’t know any better than to believe all the bull crap-dribble coming out of the spokesman’s mouth (whoever it was today I don’t have a name nor do I care for it) I can tell you that it wasn’t Tim Cook.

If you manage to work your way through the lies and manipulative business models of Apple attempting to put down its competition, you would soon discover what was revealed in the iPad mini – or not so mini as it was seen.

Sure, the iPad mini was super slim and looked rather neat, but the device was only just shy of 8 inches. To put that size into perspective, the full-size iPad is 10 inches. Not much of a difference, especially when competitors have been making a 7 inch, that many, mind you, call a perfect size. Not the case for Apple, though, as they spent much of their time talking about how their product is better than the competition while putting down the competition for unclaimed reasons at the same time.

After spending some time talking about how great the new iPad mini is, all fans watching were just tuning out, all too aware of what Apple was doing – talking it up so that people’s mouths don’t hit the deck too hard after a price tag announcement – and that’s exactly how it went down.

The iPad mini is anything but cheap. It comes in at something like $329 (that’s American) dollars. Here is Australia that’s got to be over the $600 ballpark figure.

Sure, they made some semi-valid points how this new iPad is better than the competition regarding specs but come on, for that price, it’s hardly direct competition, which is what less tech savvy people don’t understand.

But this is Apple land where nothing is cheap. So what does the iPad Mini have to offer?

It’s claimed to have “everything even if not better than the iPad 2″ as claimed by the Apple spokesman. That includes a 1024 x 768 display (which has a resolution less than the Kindle Fire which they conveniently left out of the speech)

The iPad Mini has two cameras, something that scares me after watching the Apple event. People were actually holding up their iPads taking photos; I’m not even joking. I can’t wait to see the poses created with this double camera device. It supports a five mega pixel cam and video that supports 1080p which is nice.

There was a big focus on the weight of this thing. Sure it was obviously exaggerated by Apple, and there was no true gauge of just how light this iPad mini is. From memory, there was a deliberate joke about how someone referred to a book, but he replied “can’t be a book, the iPad mini is too light ha ha ha” or something along those lines. The Apple guy then went on to say its “as light as paper” obviously not likely to be true, but from watching it in his hand, it did actually look like it must be pretty light.

I mentioned price earlier, that price was, of course, the baseline price of all prices to be. The iPad Mini will come in three different varieties – 16GB ($329) / 32GB ($429) / 64GB ($529). There is also two different connection types. Choose from Wi-Fi or LTE for only an extra $130 American dollars. That only was sarcastic if you didn’t pick that up through text.

The iPad Mini will be available a month earlier than the 4th Gen iPad, sometime in November.
