DESCRIPTION

I’m familiar with zillow.com from Google Search because for the last 5+ years, each time I would go to google.com to research the value of a town/suburb in the US, zillow.com was my preferred result to click on. I loved the way that they showed the graph of how the house prices have performed in the area over the last decade and the rest of the features on the page were exactly what I was looking for. So in general, I know that zillow.com is a great website already. Nevertheless, I will review it as though I am visiting it from the homepage.

The homepage showed a search box to the left of the center. Inside the search box was some suggested text that asked for me to enter an email, address, neighborhood, city, or zip code. Most of these options were standard by email was a new option to me that I hadn’t seen on other sites, and I didn’t know exactly what Zillow meant by this. Is it asking for an agent’s email? What would be the point of entering my own email? I’m not sure what they mean by email, but perhaps they mean enter the email of a seller you know of. Beneath the search box was an option to get home recommendations by signing up first. There were three widgets with information on them, The widgets were for buying a home, selling a home, and renting a home. At the bottom of the page was a section about Zillow recommendations.

I prefer Zillow to Redfin.com and Realtor.com when looking up median home prices for places around the US such as Manhattan Beach. I prefer Zillow's charts to the others, though I am open-minded to Redfin and Realtor potentially having better information. I am not sure which site gives the most accurate data, but I can tell you that the data between sites is often different. For Manhattan Beach (California), Zillow shows a chart that has trended up and currently sits above 3 million for the median price. Redfin has shown stagnation since 2020 and a median price of closer to 2.5 million. I assume Zillow to be correct since we have had nothing but inflation since 2020. House prices never came down and could easily go up in rich places like Manhattan Beach because the rich pay with cash and are getting more money back on their savings with the high interest rates.

Zillow.com shows the list price whereas other sites like realtor.com show the list and sold prices. The list prices have trended up since 2020; however, the sold prices have stagnated. There is a large discrepancy between list prices and sold prices at the moment.
