Some iPhone users who are attempting to restore the stock or custom firmware are receiving an error code 3194 from iTunes. The error message reads “The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)”. There are a couple of ways around this issue. Currently, there is no registry cleaner to fix error 3194 tools or anything of that nature. However, we can still solve this problem by doing one of the following tricks.
If you have a jailbroken iPhone, go ahead and download TinyUmbrella. There has recently been a TinyUmbrella released for the latest iOS 6.1.4 also, so it should not matter what firmware you are running. There will be a TinyUmbrella for you to use. After you download TinyUmbrella open it up and head to the advanced tab. In here will be some checked boxes. In particular look for the one that says “Set host to Cydia on exit.” Once you have found it, un-check this box. Now upon reboot of the computer, the problem should be solved.
As an alternative, for those not running custom firmware, there is a different solution. You are going to need to find the host of the computer you are using. These host files do vary depending on which type of computer you are using. If you are running a Windows PC, then the host file is as follows: c:windowssystem32driversetchosts. However, if you are running a Mac, then the host file is this: /, etc./hosts. Now that you have located the host file open it up. Make sure you are running the computer as an administrator to get the privileges required to do the task. Now from inside the host file, you have to look for commands that include this: gs.apple.com and remove them.
