Microsoft did away with Windows Aero design after Windows 7; however, during a recent “Windows Wednesday” podcast while detailing what’s new with Power Toys, some developers from the Windows team revealed that some of the Windows Aero design that we knew from Windows Vista and Windows 7 might be on the way back.

In particular, while opening the Run dialog, one of the developers exposed a transparent title bar. It would be unusual for there only to be one transparent title bar for the Run dialog and yet no transparency for the rest, which leaves many to believe that some Windows Aero features may be on the way back in fashion for the Windows 11 UI coming soon.

Windows Aero is a design language introduced in the Windows Vista operating system. Windows Aero and its design elements played a big role in helping Windows Vista appear like a more modern operating system. Windows 10 aesthetically was the most modern operating system when it first arrived, but it didn’t involve any use of transparency for general design, nor did it have rounded corners. Simplicity is still what is modern, but there is an appreciation for creating what is difficult rather than what is easy. Therefore, it makes sense that rounded corners might be the better long-term design option. The same argument could be made for transparency.
