At the beginning of March, there was question marks over the galaxy Tab 4 models confirmed by Samsung. Less than two weeks later we had confirmation that an LTE Samsung Galaxy tab 4 10.1 had visited the FCC to be officially certified, laying to rest any doubts we had that it might not be coming. If you have an LTE version there’s no question that Sammy is bringing out the real deal variant. As it turns out we were correct because 24 hours after that we saw the SM-T530 variant pass through the FCC.

Now, thanks to Evleaks twitter Timeline, we have been given leaked press renders of the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1. It offers a gray front panel and a very generic colourful background of the Android operating system that we have seen since Jelly Bean.

The most intriguing part about this leaked image is looking at the time stamped on the display. It is possible this picture has been leaked on purpose, looking simplified because that makes you search around the image looking for clues or further features. As soon as you start letting your eyes wonder the clock showing the time of 12:45pm with the date of Thursday April 24 beneath it stand out.

If a tech company can’t keep leaks behind closed doors because employees can’t be trusted then why not venture to change it into a positive by giving us a cryptic clue? That could be what is transpiring here with the date, almost like a hint that it will be released at that time. If it does turn out to be that date then the official invitations will start rolling out very soon. If the date on the invitation matches up with the time given on this stamped image then we can put two and two together and by confident in saying it will be released on the 24th of April 2014.

As it stands today we have hope that it will turn out being true. The reason is that they passed through the FCC a couple of weeks into March that is a few weeks ago now. When devices visit the FCC they generally take around a month’s time depending on certain factors, but this time is definitely within the required ballpark of a release time. Right now all is pointing towards the 24th being a good guess.

If you are interested, the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 will sport a 10.1 inch-display like the name suggests, with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. To me, this picture looks gray, but we have been told to expected a black and white version only. There is a chance this image is white and not gray. It is a render, and to make the panel stand out rather than blend into the background, the designers may have given it a gray tinge instead of leaving it pure white. It has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 system chip and a 1.2GHz processor, plus 1.5GB of RAM.

To put those specs into perspective, we are seeing the Snapdragon 801 chipset in new Android flagship smartphones this year and that is a step up from the previous years 800. The 400 is often used in the “Mini” versions as well as a budget version of the product line. We are also accustomed to seeing at least 2 GB of RAM on board a smartphone. That means by looking at it on paper the performance on this tablet will have a lot to be desired.
