The LG Optimus F3 is a smartphone that was announced on the 6th of June 2013. It did not get released until some time after that date and several big name US phone carriers picked this one up such as Virgin, Boost Mobile, MetroPCS, T-Mobile and it was discontinued by Sprint. That is interesting because we are now expecting Sprint to buy out T-mobile USA by June 2014.

The F3’s main rivals are the Optimus F6, F9, F9 T-Mobile, Galaxy Victory 4G, Galaxy Ring, Alcatel One Touch Fierce and the Galaxy S3. The only smartphone that is a household name in that list is the S3. We know that it was Sammy’s flagship device two years ago from now because we have just witnessed the launch of the S5 in the last couple of months.

LG Optimus F3

For an entry-level phone it has plenty of features such as an OS running Android 4.1.2 Jellybean, a screen size of 4-inches, a 5 megapixel camera, a front-facing snapper, a Dual core, 1200 MHz processor and 1024 MB RAM with 4 GB internal storage. That is always where we are, let down the most when it comes to entry-level devices, but luckily there are the option of buying external storage in the form of MicroSD, microSDHC up to 32 GB.

Note; This guide uses the SafeRoot tool even though it is no longer available from the XDA Developers page we have found another link attached to Android Forums. The tool is 100% available from our link.

Details of Note

  • Make sure you are in possession of the F3 version of the LG Optimus running Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and no other device or firmware. If you have not updated with any other then you will be on this because it has not received any new software OTA. Nevertheless, if you want to double check go to Settings > About Phone and check what version of Android the device is using.
  • USB a USB cable to connect the handset to the computer and make sure the correct drivers are on it. If you do not know where to find the USB cable check the phone charger! Most people use it as a charger every day.
  • Enable USB Debugging Mode by visiting the Develop Options. Develop Options is hidden in Android 4.2, but that is not a concern here. Incase, it is hidden you can go to Settings > About Phone > Tap on the build number 10 times to unlock it.
  • Turn off any antivirus software that you paid for or downloaded free on the Android mobile and the computer. It can interfere and interrupt the smooth process. Just remember to only temporarily disable it so it starts up again automatically upon reboot of the operating system.
  • This step by step guide will void the warranty you have on a smartphone. The only way to get the warranty working again is by revoking the root.
  • Backup all data such as call logs, EFS, SMS and MMS with internal memory or external memory if the internal memory is out of space. Also, sync contacts with Samsung Kies or Gmail. Alternatively, there is many apps available from the Google Play Store that can help you out with this task.
  • Guarantee that there is adequate battery strength remaining on the device before starting. We recommend 80%.
