Recovery mode is a bootable partition in the Android operating system that lets you wipe data and factory reset, apply updates from ADB, wipe the cache partition and reboot the system. These are all the default features that not only come with every Motorola device, but every device that runs Android. Then there’s the custom recoveries that don’t come stock with the device.

These custom recoveries are developed by the Android open source community and come with additional features. The main feature that most people want a custom recovery installed for is uploading zip files from the SD card.  By Android’s design, you cannot do that from a stock recovery. The reason people want to apply zip files is so they can install a custom ROM and not run the stock ROM, or getting root access by uploading the SuperSU zip file.

While all of that might sound confusing if you are new to Android, you don’t need to know if you are running a stock or custom recovery because you can get access to them both in the same way: using the buttons on your mobile device.

How To Enter Recovery Mode On The Motorola Droid Turbo

  1. Press the Power key and select the Off option from the menu.
  2. If your Motorola smartphone has an unresponsive screen, press the Power button in for at least 7-10 seconds until you know it’s definitely off. The exact time it takes to Power down devices varies. However, we don’t know any that are still on after ten seconds.
  3. Reboot the Motorola Droid Turbo by pressing the Power + Volume Up + Volume Down buttons simultaneously.
  4. Release the said three button combination after 4 seconds.
  5. You should now see the boot menu.
  6. Use the Volume Down to scroll through the list of options.
  7. Stop when you highlight the recovery option from the menu.
  8. Confirm you want to enter the recovery mode on the Droid Turbo by pressing the Volume Up key.
  9. Wait until you see the Android logo on the screen.
  10. Press the Volume Down and Volume Up keys together for 5 seconds. Once 5 seconds is up keep them both pressed in and press the Power button.
