DESCRIPTION

My first impression of nicovideo.jp was that it was a very lightweight website. I don’t know what it is with Japanese sites, but I often feel they make a great lightweight website. I do have some web development knowledge. The platform matters as does the general coding. But I also think that nicovideo.jp spends a lot of money running an outstanding web server and that’s something I can appreciate. I liked the nicovideo.jp homepage. The page wrap was not wide, but that’s because it had a left sidebar that it wanted users to see and interact with. When I clicked on a homepage link and opened a single post page, the page wrap was a lot wider and the extra width allowed for a sidebar with more related streams in it which is great for SEO because it increases the chance of the user clicking through to another page on the site and them engaging with your content more. I interacted with the sidebar myself and each new single post page with another video on it was the same: it loaded quickly, the video player was impressive, and there was plenty of other streaming content in the right sidebar running down the page and started well above the fold to increase the engagement as much as possible without ruining the viewing experience of the video player. I was very pleased with the SEO on nicovideo.jp.
