DESCRIPTION
The default language on dlsite.com was Japanese. I liked that they had a button for numerous languages as an overlay on my first visit so I could set the language before browsing rather than relying on Google to translate the pages. Google is decent at translating but it’s not as good as if a unique site goes to the effort of translating the pages themselves. For instance, all the buttons and everything were set to English after I chose English but I’m not sure Google Translate would have managed to convert as many of the words and features on the page into English if I left it up to the Chrome browser to do it. The dlsite.com homepage didn’t have that many links, which told me that there was a lot of importance given to the ones that I could see. The existing links were split into three sections: All Ages, Adult, and Otome / Boys’ Love. I was unfamiliar with the latter title, so I clicked on All Ages instead and in particular, the Doujin / Indi section. Now all of a sudden, there was a lot of content on the page and a lot of links. The top section beneath the header but above the content was for banner ads and half of them were on a slider. Suffice it to say, there was no shortage of advertisement interest on dlsite.com, which tells me it is popular. Beneath the ads were thumbnails for all the different Doujin comics. There were many of these small thumbnails complete with titles and an effect that lights them up when I hovered over them. The single post offered me the chance to read much of the Doujin for free; however, I still had to checkout via a shopping cart before I could read it. I don’t recommend setting up free content like that. You will lose readers who fear anything that resembles having to checkout with a payment.
