If you are shopping for the new Samsung Galaxy S5 and are willing to go with Verizon as a phone carrier then you will be pleased to hear that the Big Red is now selling the S5 for $99 if you buy it from Amazon.
The deal comes in at around $100 cheaper and for the price you pay now even we say that is a good deal. We have been skeptical all along with this phone based on the news that a more premium version would be coming mid-year even if Samsung refused to admit it. The fact is they did not aspire to ruin the sales of this watered down variant and there is a new quad-HD Snapdragon 805 variant here in a few months.
If you would prefer to go on another carrier instead there is a good chance that they too will drop their prices down soon as it is all but revealed that another S5 is on the way by June/July. Shoppers do not have much reason to buy this phone on a plan anymore unless it is coming very cheaply as the deal we have here from Amazon.
The price to buy the current flagship smartphone from Sammy outright remains too high for out liking at $699. We say pass on that until it drops further.
This particular deal is regarding the white 16 GB Verizon Galaxy S5 and also the black Verizon Galaxy S5 in 16 GB. Buyers before that the 16GB only turns into just over 10 GB of user internal storage by the time all of the standard features have finished using up their existing space. The upside to that is it has three different internal storage options ranging from microsoSD, microSDHC and microSDXC and these can hold up to 128 GB of extra storage.
In case you missed it, the current S5 is using the Android 4.4.2 KitKat as an operating system and that is the latest out from Android. It weighs as little as 145 grams and has a screen size of 5.1-inches. It has an impressive display restitution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and also comes with a 16 megapixel camera that is considered one of the highlights of the new total package. The system chip in this one is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 and like we mentioned previously we fully expect that to be taken over by the 805 over the next few months. It also has an Adreno 330 graphics processor and 2048 MB RAM of system memory.
We do not like what Sammy have decided to do by bringing out two new phones in the one year both under the same name. As if Android wasn’t confusing enough as it is for non tech enthusiasts, now they have to work their brains a little harder to know exactly what is that they are holding. It will leave the door open to make extra sales by fooling a select few consumers, much like baseball cards do by the day. People think they are holding a rare gem worth lots of money only to be told it is a similar item to that, but not quite it.
