For a phone that originally started off with 2.4 Gingerbread, it’s good to see this one come a long way. One thing that never ceases to amaze us is how the older devices are still made to be compatible with the newer firmware. The reason we love that is because the newer software versions are always much improved, and as such, they need more things. Android does nothing short of a stellar job to keep it under wraps in my opinion. Having said that, we are now living in a time when the latest Apple operating system won’t support the earlier phones, so more than likely that era will be coming over to the little green robot side of things too. It’s easy to forget it’s only been five years since all of this started. They celebrated the 5th birthday recently.
Why is this update so good? For many reasons. Firstly, it has the updated patch that fixes the security issue which was only recently found. The second big reason is that you can’t get Jelly Bean on this mobile any other way because it wasn’t released for it by the Android team. Thanks to the CyanogenMod guys, they have brought it out so everyone owning a Nexus S can now get a hold of 4.2.2 JB. Also worth mentioning is that this is a stable build, which is even more reason to go ahead and jump on this puppy.
- Don’t forget to leave comments for any criticism or any compliments also. We enjoy getting the feedback from our users and knowing how their experience was. This can also be great in helping keep the site posts up to date and eliminating any concerns of future users.
- verify the USB Drivers are up to date and in perfect working order. In addition, you must turn the phone on and navigate to the Settings application followed by enabling the USB Debugging Mode from the Developer Options menu. failing to do this will result in an unsuccessful connection when plugging the nexus into the computer.
- You can use a computer, notebook or laptop to complete this guide. We recommend using a Windows-based PC running anything from XP through to Windows 8.
- One thing that takes the stress off our back a bit is if you guys back up your handsets. Then, if something were to go wrong there is no problems because you can just install it all again. This is a much quicker and less expensive solution to any of the others, and when you know how to do it, it’s a quick process for the rest of the time you need it. There should be lots too, because you shouldn’t just back up for rooting. You should try to do this as often as possible. A device can get corrupted at any time and due to many things. Without these copies there is no saving your sensitive information any other way.
- This is custom firmware and that means you need root access by unchaining the OS before attempting to start the steps. Moreover, since you have root, it means you can back up the phone contacts, market applications, pictures, music files and videos by taking a full NANDroid backup. Alternatively try downloading one of the many apps available from the Google Play Store such as Titanium.
Install Android 4.2.2 CM 10.1 Custom ROM On The Nexus S I9020
1. Download the CM10.1.1 4.2.2 Jelly Bean ROM and Google Gapps.
2. Firmware is very sensitive and can only be used on the correct devices with the right model number. In order to check yours go to Settings> About device> Model number.
3. Using the USB cable, make a connection between the computer and the phone so that it is plugged in.
Back up the personal data and any settings you may have now. If you leave it later than this step it will be too late to do anything about if something goes wrong.
Turn off any security programs which you may have running on the handset. Sometimes there is some problems with the configuration in what it let’s go through. Because of this the solution is to just disable it. It is also possible to just delete it and then you can re-install it again at a later date.
Wiping all the data is very important, and is what we should do now. There are several different ones which need wiping so bear with me. These are done in any particular order, but we have tried to do it in a way that is practical to our knowledge.
– Wipe data/factory reset
– Wipe cache partition
To do this, navigate back at the main menu first.
– Wipe Dalvik Cache
For this, look inside of advanced options.
6. Now we are ready to install the file we previously transferred over. We do this by navigating to install from SD card. This is found via main recovery screen again. Now you want to choose the file that you did in step 1 and install it. Do the same thing again for the other file, which is the Google Gapps.
7. Once done, it’s time to go back to main recovery yet again. This time, choose reboot system now. Wait for it to reboot like it says and it’s fully installed.
