The Sony Xperia Z ultra Google Play Edition smartphone is already running on Android Lollipop. We know the rest of the Xperia range is getting the 5.0 Lollipop or 5.0.1 Lollipop. That means Android Wear must receive the same so they all work seamlessly, have matching user interfaces and the same features.
The Sony Smartwatch 3 is finding the Android 5.0.1 L firmware rolling out now. As you probably know already, all over the air signals roll out in stages to watches. That’s why some of you already have the new firmware waiting for you to automatically update, while others are still waiting. You can jump the waiting line and install the official OTA file by side-loading it on your device. We’ll show you how to do that below.
You can’t flash the tetra LWX84P from KNX01V zip file unless you have root access. Reports suggest this is the official file. It’s not like a phone where rooting only means unofficial firmware. Follow the guide for rooting the watch here. From there you must visit the next XDA Developers thread and read over the flashing steps here.
Furthermore, owners of the other watches in the Android Wear range such as the Moto 360, LG G Watch, G Watch R, Samsung gear Live and the Asus Zenwatch are finding the same Lollipop update rolling. However, flashing varies from device to device and side-loading the Moto 360 is not working unless you ruin the water resistance feature. That happens since there is no way to connect the watch to a computer and you must use a computer for the manual installation.
