Users who own the LG G2 Smartphone can now root it on the latest Android 4.2.2 firmware. A little while ago we showed you when this firmware was released and provided you with the file to download it manually. Now, once you have it up and running you may be looking to get root access to it. Here is the guide to show you how to do it.
You should always go through the checklist of perquisites before you dive into the guide itself so that you are prepared properly and know exactly what you’re getting into. There’s also some helpful tips that you may not be aware of. You can see them here:
- This guide has been specially made for Windows PC’s only. The reason for that is the file we use is only made for Microsoft’s Windows. There’s a chance in future it changes, but as of today the developer of the tool has not made any plans to release it on Mac or any of the others for that matter. It all comes down to popularity and demand.
- LG comes with companion software. This software can interfere with this procedure so it’s in your best interest to have this turned off or uninstalled until it is completed.
- Make sure that this model number is the correct one. To find out the model number of your Android phone go to Settings > About Device > Model Number.
- Enable USB Debugging mode on the LG G2 device. To do this navigate using your touchscreen to Settings > Developer Options for Android 4.0 or later.
- We recommend having roughly 75% battery charge remaining before you try to start this guide. The reason is you don’t want it to shut down until the procedure is complete. It is long and because the phone is in use the battery will be draining a lot quicker compared to when you just have it sitting next to you. Having said that, 75% is safe for everybody.
- Make sure you have backed up the G2 using its internal memory. We find this is the easiest and best way to do it. If by any chance you need to do a factory reset after the tutorial because something didn’t work out all of your data and settings will be wiped. That is why if you back it up, then you can have all of your details on the phone again.
The LG G2 is a 5.2 inch Smartphone that has a 1080p full HD display, a 2.26 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM. When you combine all that it gives us what you would expect from one of the best Android handsets going around. There’s no need for any more than 2GB in a Smartphone. The processor is as good as it gets now, although we are expecting big things from Snapdragon in the future which will raise the number higher. It comes running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box which is also what we have the guide for here.
How to root LG G2 Smartphone on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean:
1. Start off by grabbing the root file here. It’s a simple download and a zip file.
2. Connect the LG G2 to the computer via the USB.
3. Find the contents you downloaded, which hopefully you manage to extract to the desktop.
4. Now head over to my favorite place — the command line. Do it by typing CMD in the search box or run field.
5. Type the following command: adb devices
Wait for it to register. You should see a number being displayed on the screen if successful. This is the serial number.
6. Head back to the folder extracted and open the root.bat file.
7. Press any key like the command line says to continue.
8. Wait until the mobile is detected again.
9. Disconnect the LG G2 from the PC.
10. On the phone turn off USB debugging.
11. Now turn it back on again. We need to do this to wipe its memory of the previous task.
12. Plug it back into the PC with the USB.
13. Press any key again to continue.
Now the root will begin at the root command line. Wait for it to finish. When it does you can close this root command line and navigate back to the original command prompt.
14 Enter these three things:
– adb shell
After confirming all three, you should see this come up on the screen: uid=0 gid=0
That means it has been a success.
15. Unplug the device from the computer properly by right clicking the USB icon in the taskbar and stopping the device. Wait for it to let you know when it is OK to disconnect and then do it in a timely fashion. If you don’t follow this one day you will be left with currupt data files.
