There are a few different ways to do this root floating around the web. Whilst I’m sure they all work fine, there is often no easier way to do it than using an all-in-one toolkit where they are available. In this case, there is one.

Not only are they easiest, but you get everything in the one place together in a nice bundle. If you are anything like a novice in the field, I highly recommend them.

If you’re anything like me, you also will hate RAR files with a passion.

HTC One V

Details of Note

There’s a list of prerequisites you will need to follow this guide, and they are:

  • Unlocking the bootloader is required before starting the guide. The process of unlocking the bootloader will wipe all the data you might have already installed on the device memory. That means if you were planning on using it for a back up you can’t do that until after you have unlocked it or you could leave yourself with nothing to put back on the phone after you are finished with the guide.
  • You will need USB debugging enabled. Because we are running Android 4.0 or newer, we can do this from the Developer Options menu.
  • It’s still important that you do back up all data before starting. It is OK to use the internal memory for this now.
  • Make sure that the device’s battery has enough power left so that it won’t shut down during the guide. If it does shut down for any reason it could “brick” it.
  • Turn off or uninstall any security programs that are running such as Antivirus software. This software can interfere with our programs and cause conflicts. Just remember to start the Antivirus back up again after you have finished here so that your phone and computer stay protected properly for when you are browsing the internet.
  • Make sure you follow all the steps carefully and don’t miss any. The guide is long and it can be easy to make a mistake when they are this long.

How to Flash TWRP Recovery And root The HTC One V from Virgin Mobile:

1. Download the all in one root package from this XDA thread.

2. Extract the files to your desktop.

3. Launch the application.

4. Inside the app is a set of instruction you can follow to get root access.

Flashing TWRP recovery:

1. Launch the toolkit application again.

2. Select TWRP 2.3.3.0 GSM for in USA. Select TWRP 2.3.3.0 CCMA if you are outside of the US.

3. Flash the recovery now.

Rooting the HTC One V:

1. From the bootloader menu, you should still be in from flashing, press the volume buttons up and/or down until you see “Bootloader use” appear.

2. Download the r1-prima-superboot-virgin mobile file.

3. Extract it to the desktop.

4. Run the ADB and fastboot applications, as well as the install-superboot-windows.bat file.

5. It will move from the bootloader screen now.

When that is complete it will reboot like normal. This process may take some extra minutes, however, don’t worry. It is only a one time event.

You will be able to find the original developer from the XDA link. Donations are always welcome to them.

Troubleshooting:

If something goes wrong and you aren’t sure how to fix it there is always the option of performing a full factory reset. To do this you will need to enter the recovery mode and select it from the options menu. This will wipe all of your data and essentially leave you with a device that was the same as when you opened it out of the box. All of your data, contacts and applications will be gone. That’s why it was important to back up to the internal memory like we suggested before starting the guide.
