The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900 recently found the official Android 5.0 Lollipop build rolling out over the air to all devices. Furthermore, the official zip file is readily available for those looking to flash the same and not wait for the OTA notification. Regardless of the direction you chose, you can root the Lollipop after the steps below.

The new method is available thanks to Chainfire’s SuperSU. As you probably know, when Chainfire’s work comes out we jump on it because he is our favorite third-party developer to work with. He delivers tool that leave users with an experience that’s still close to stock Android with the extra bloatware, while still opening up the system internals away from the default factory restrictions which we know as gaining root access.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

We are listing a few of the essentials before starting the steps. That way our readers understand the risks involved, what they are losing, what they are gaining, what they need to complete the guide and more.

Details of Note

  • You involuntary void the warranty by applying the following. You can get the privileges of free service back once more by reverting back to stock official firmware without the root access. Do that by flashing a future OTA file manually, or by installing an app from Google Play.
  • The best application we recommend for unrooting is the Root and Unroot pro app. It’s money well spent if you are in a hurry to lock the smart phone.
  • You should back using third-party apps, or the built-in backup utility from the phone. Some apps we recommend include Helium which lets users make copies of the phone contacts, SMS texts and more.
  • All Samsung devices come with what is called an EFS folder. That’s the folder that holds important details such as the IMEI number. If you don’t want to risk your IMEi number, you should make a copy of it by installing the Samsung EFS backup application from Google Play.
  • You are connecting to a computer for much of the guide; thus the USB charging feature will take care of most of the battery problems. You don’t need to reserve enough battery power before you start. However, if you don’t like taking risks, or you know the USB charging feature isn’t working on yours, you should start with no less than 50% battery power.
  • Download the USB drivers from the official Samsung website, or third-party links if you don’t have them already. Download the Samsung USB Drivers for mobile phones from this link.
  • Otherwise, you can install the USB drivers from Samsung Kies. Just remember to turn off Kies before starting the steps or else it could interfere with the Odin application.
  • Likewise, you ought to have the USB Debugging mode permissions on from the Settings menu. You’ll find that from the Developer Options menu.
  • You must have a Windows notebook or computer to use the guide. The Odin tool is available for Windows and not Mac or Linux machines. It’s possible to flash and root using other ways, but not after the same.
  • The follow is only presented for the SM-N900 variant of the galaxy Note 3. You can check your model number by going to Settings > About Device.
