If you’ve just updated your Mac to the latest macOS Sierra, you’ll find an additional icon in the menu bar of your Mac that says, Siri. And yes, you guessed it right. It’s for launching the Apple’s virtual assistant called Siri on your Mac to which you can then ask various questions and give orders.
If you already have some icons in the menu bar of your Mac, and you would not like to increase the clutter—thereby having an additional Siri icon—then you can just get the Siri icon removed from there so that you have less clutter there. The following should not affect the functionality of Siri in any way, and there are also other ways to launch Siri on your Mac. You can fire it up from your Dock, or you can just say “Hey Siri” to activate Siri on your Mac.
Hiding the Siri icon in the menu bar can be done using the following steps:
Removing the Siri Icon from the Menu Bar of Your Mac
All you’re going to need to do the following steps is a Mac running macOS Sierra. No third-party apps or tools are required.
Click on the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of your screen and select the option that says “System Preferences.” It will take you to the system settings panel for your Mac from where you can modify all of your Mac related settings.
When the system preferences panel opens, click on the “Siri” icon to bring forth the Siri settings panel. That’s the panel where you can change all the Siri-related settings on your Mac.
If you don’t find the Siri option in the panel, you’re probably not running macOS Sierra or latest on your Mac.
When the Siri settings panel launches, you will see an option with a checkmark saying “Show Siri” in the menu bar. That option is what decides whether the Siri icon should be shown in the menu bar of your Mac or not.
The checkmark should be enabled by default. So, what you need to do is click on it to disable it.
As soon as you uncheck the option, the Siri icon will be removed from the menu bar. You can move your cursor to the top of your screen, and you will notice that the Siri icon is gone. It’s no longer there.
So, that was how you could remove the Siri icon from the menu bar of your Mac.
Removing the icon doesn’t mean you’re removing the entire app. Siri still exists on your Mac, and it will work as it should for you regardless of its icon’s presence in the menu bar.
The reason Apple has included the Siri icon in the menu bar is that Apple wanted for you to quickly access the virtual assistant without clicking here and there on your Mac. Personally speaking, I always launch Siri from the menu bar of my Mac as it’s the most convenient way to launch it. However, there are users whose menu bar is already crowded and they would not like to have an extra app in there.
