If you want to discover the Xperia Home goodness from the Sony Z3 smartphone, then you’ll love this nifty port that is available for other handsets under the Xperia name. As we wind down the final stages of the chocolate software before we hit the Android 5.0 L, there’s not a great deal of action for additional features to play with. That makes this the perfect time to try out the aforementioned modification.

There are many benefits to rooting the Android-based handsets. After unchaining the operating system you have essentially removed the factory restrictions and thus opening the OS for additional custom ROMs, custom firmware and custom applications. The latter is what we are doing here with the help from Superuser. If you do not have root access with SuperUser installed it will not work for you. Additionally, the official developer listed in this XDA thread is not 100% on what Xperia-based smartphones and tablets it will work for. However, he did mention that any of the Xperia Z1, Z2 and the Z3 will successfully install the following applications and widgets for you to use from the home screen.

Xperia SP

The list of Xperia devices is a long one including the M2, T, T3, Z3 compact, Z3X, Z3V, C3, E3 as well as the aforementioned devices we posted previously. That means the developer did not manage to test all of the devices including most of the list I ran through. He specially mentions he “doesn’t know’ if they will work and not they won’t work. That means don’t blame us or him if you cannot get the widgets working on your smartphone. Nevertheless, we know from comments left on forums and other blogs that the main Z lineup does support the files and functions perfectly. you should know that this is a port and must work with Android 4.4 KitKat. We think it will work on Android 4.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.2, 4.4.3 and the latest 4.4.4 KitKat.

Since the installments come with a degree of risk, we advise you take the time to back up the OS including the phone contacts, SMS texts, call logs, settings, history, videos, music files, audio files and pictures from the galleries. That way if you do need to run through the factory reset process, you won’t be left without the phones data.

Furthermore, we have a developing story here and we’d appreciate any feedback so we can develop a list of smartphones that it does work for and one that it doesn’t work for. If you are taking the risk and have any results to report back with leave a comment in the comments section below and we will be very grateful. You can pick up the widgets and apps from the direct links below.
