Although we are not quite sure what Sony were up to when the decided to release the Z2 only six months after it is Z1 predecessor, we do know that the water and dust resistant Z2 has a brand new software update with the build number of 17.1.A.2.69.

Unlike the Z1 that came with jelly bean, this Z2 came out of the box with Android 4.4 KitKat. It will be a newer version of KitKat that will be even better than the last. Don’t expect anything big coming the way of the people who have managed to get their hands on these devices from online purchasers, because all of the main feature were already built-in to the previous version. In the likely event that they had found some bugs those have now been attended to in this new build.

Not many people have this device yet. After being announced on the 24th of February it is released for T-Mobile only so far and many of those customers are from online orders.

It is not uncommon to see small software updates such as the one we have here even though the handset is brand new. It is not alarming or a bad thing. Ideally these little chinks in the armor are already out but software is such a complex thing that even by today’s standard there are always bugs and areas that can be improved.

If you have received this update already and have noticed any difference in your Xperia handset then please leave a comment and tell our readers what you are experiencing. Then maybe they can notice it easier for themselves.

If you are yet to buy one of these smartphone but are thinking about the purchase, we like what we see. It has a 5.2-inch display that carries a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Our favorite feature is the 20 megapixel camera. It only has the 16 GB of built-in storage and for many women who love to store photos on their phone that is not enough. The good news is that it also comes with extra microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC storage options that can hold an additional 128 GB. Now that is enough for anybody I know.

Smartphone are potentially going to change a great deal over the next 12 months so if you are somebody that doesn’t have much money and were looking to make a great investment my advice is to wait off a while. As we have seen, Sony can bang out these flagships in six month intervals and there isn’t massive technology differences between this and the last version.

Those of you who do have it already will enjoy the 801 Snapdragon system chip, NFC, Lots of RAM (3072) and high pixel density giving off a great view. It is a device that doesn’t carry any negative aspects at all and it is hard to find any negatives being talked about other than the fact that it could be taken down from the top of the shelf specs by later this year.

Check if this OTA update has arrived for you by switching on the device, unlocking the passcode and navigating to Settings > More > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates
