Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE version have a brand new over the air update rolling out as we speak to selected devices that will boost the software to version XXUFNC8. All of you who own the 4G compatible variant of this handset can use your hands to navigate to Settings > More > About phone > Software updates > Check for software updates and see if an update is already waiting for you.
Earlier today we wrote about a new technology that is alerting HTC owners when the Sense 6 update arrives, and while hopes are high that the same technology can be used to detect the firmware in the future, that is not the case yet. As such, there is still no telling exactly when it will arrive for individuals and it could be a matter of weeks before it eventually finishes being distributed to everyone. If you hate waiting hopefully it lands OTA quicker for you.
The Galaxy S4 got its first taste of the 4.4.2 KitKat in January of 2014 and it came out with a bang although many users will say it did not have as many surprises in store for them as they thought it would. It has the TouchWiz UI and a camera on the lock screen. The bottom corner will show an icon that allows anybody to press and use the camera. That means the passcode is not required to unlock the screen. The Status bar is all white and the green color is gone. The WiFi is not orange anymore either.
Speeds and a faster UI is the most notable feature here. Android always try and improve this and they have done it again by a noticeable degree to the human eye. A feature that goes unmentioned a lot is the landscape mode keyboard. It has been updated to be more compact with different size keys. The idea is to make it easier to type. Performance goes up in a big way compared to jelly Bean and the original KitKat 4.4.
Those feature I mentioned came to KitKat in general and are in no way specific to this build here. It will come with bug fixes and tiny performance enhancements once again. It is unlikely to carry any significant feature upgrades, but it is always good to upgrade none-the-less and especially if you have noticed any existing issues running your current software that you would like to see gone. Chances are a fix has been brought in to solve your problem.
