A brand new firmware version 14.4.A.0.133 is certified for the Sony Xperia Z1, Z1 compact and Z Ultra smartphones. The Z1 model numbers are C6902, C6906 and C6903 phones. The Compact model numbers are D5503 and the C6833, C6802, C6843 and C6806 variants of the Sony Z ultra are all receiving this update.
As you well know, the software updates arrive as a notification to the device when it is ready. They roll out in stages so we all see them at different times. If you have yours installed already, please leave a comment with what you are experiencing different compared with last time.
Furthermore, many people are experiencing lag, since the last KitKat update and are still waiting for solutions to the problems. We are hopeful the fix will arrive in this new build. Most people are left pleasantly surprised with how well Sony is beginning to look after their devices with promptly updates after they know they didn’t get things right last time.
Moreover, the new build takes over from the previous 14.4.A.0.118 Kitkat firmware.
We advise performing a clean installation if you experience any problems after installing. Backup the market apps, SMS texts, photo galleries and the rest before restoring factory settings and creating a full factory reset.
Users are still waiting for Android 4.4.4 Kitkat to come for these devices and there’s some hope after we just finished reporting on the Z1S receiving it OTA today.
