Four days ago a leak surfaced online that showed a potential Xperia Z2 for Verizon. We know that the Sony flagship for 2014 will obviously be coming to the United States, but what many people did not see happening was it going to India. Well, it appears as though that is exactly where it is headed, as Sony has a potential launch event planned in India on the 8th of May. It is widely expected that this event will be the official launch of the Sony Xperia Z2 in India. We expect they will not take long to release it after the official unveiling. It could be as little as a day or two.

Europeans and Asians have already been lucky enough to witness this beautiful smartphone launch in some of their countries and that is why we are so confident about this upcoming event. There isn’t much else it could be for so if we play the elimination game, we have our answer.

Sony Xperia Z2

I was not expecting India to see this device because I thought the initial price would be too steep in a place that has a weaker economy and gadgets costs so much money. However, Sony suffered greatly with delays in the release of this handset, and many customers around the world refused to wait for it. Instead, they jumped on the chance to switch over to the Galaxy S5 or the HTC One M8 which are the main rivals for this smartphone along with the iPhone 6 that will be coming later in the year.

The Z2 was announced on the 24th of February and is released already in parts around the globe. It has a physical display of 5.2-inches and runs Android 4.4 Kitkat for an operating system. It weighs 163 grams and is made of glass. The body is dust and water-resistant just like the Galaxy S5. It has high screen resolution at 1080 x 1920 pixels with a pixel density of 424ppi. The technology behind the screen is IPS LCD.

It seems the year of 2014 isn’t revolutionary unless we do witness the brand new displays coming out later in the year with other devices like the rumored Galaxy S5 prime edition. For now, though, this is all just speculation and with the latest news of the LG G3 coming in plastic much like the S5 did, it is hard to know exactly what is going on. Did LG and Samsung offer lackluster flagships, this year, and, therefore, devices like this Z2 and the M8 look good, or are they about to launch more premium versions? If there is a more premium version just around the corner, then that makes buying this very risky play.

If we purely stack this smartphone up with the present competition, we like what we see. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 MSM8974-AB system chip, Quad core, 2300 MHz, Krait 400 processor and a 20.7 megapixels camera. That is up there with the Galaxy K Zoom we just saw launch the other day that comes with the camera lens sticking out the front of it. Furthermore, it was the S5 that won the battle when it came to taking pictures over all the present competition. Looking at the specs this Z2 will beat out the S5 and it will not even be close.

We are now at a fork in the road where, because of company secrecy, we cannot say exactly what is going on. Smartphones release at all different times and there is a chance we see a better version under the same name such as the “prime” S5 later in 2014. We suspect this because of the Snapdragon 805 rumors that go inside devices at some point.

To close, the Xperia Z2 will launch in India on the 8th of May and the release date will come with the following week.
