It’s not always we hear about Android and iOS having much in common. About the only times we hear the two operating systems in the same sentence is when we hear debates about which operating system is better or which people are swapping over to use the other.

The new one-click rooting tool, namely Towelroot, is founded by the same developer who was the first to jailbreak the iPhone. His name is Geohot and it’s a name you can feel confident with using your Android operating system too.

Sony Xperia SP

The best part about the Towelroot one-click rooting tool is that you cannot brick your device. If your device does not work with the rooting tool, it just gives you an unsuccessful message and you’ll need to look for a new method. The downside is that it only works for Android KitKat and most exploits are patched by the time Android developers rolled out Android Lollipop.

Files You Need

  1. You need to open the web browser on your Sony Xperia device and enter this URL during the guide: http://towelroot.com. Do not do that yet.
  2. You are voiding the warranty on the Xperia SP201 device by following this guide. You can unroot the SP201 any time and get that warranty working again.
  3. You do not need a computer to root the Sony Xperia SP201 smartphone using this guide.

Rooting the Sony Xperia SP201

  1. Make sure you have the Unknown Sources option turned on from the SP201 settings by navigating to the Menu > Settings > Security > Unknown Sources.
  2. Open your web browser now and enter the Towelroot URL we gave in the files section above.
  3. Press your finger on the Lambda and it will start downloading your rooting exploit.
  4. Save the tr.apk file.
  5. Swipe from the top of the device’s display and pull down the SP201 notification shade.
  6. Tap on the notification you get to say your download is complete.
  7. Tap the ‘Install’ option.
  8. Swipe from the top of the Sp201 display once again and pull down that notification shade.
  9. Tap the button that lets you know the installation is complete.
  10. Tap the Make it Ra1n button — that’s the developers way of saying he is about to run the exploit on your device.
  11. Soon it will tell you that your device is rooted and you do not have to reboot the Sp201 device.
  12. Open your Google Play Store application and download the SuperSU app by Chainfire.
  13. Confirm any prompts you might get from the SuperSU app a SU binary needing updating.
  14. Choose to install it normally if you do not have a custom recovery installed.
  15. Open your Google Play Store application once last time and install the Basic root checker app.
  16. Follow the on-screen prompts issued by the root checker app and check that your device is rooted. You can grant any superuser requests it might have — these are all safe things to do.

Great; you now have rooted the Sony Xperia SP201, installed the SuperSU and the root checker app. The SuperSU is going to be your devices security and not allow root access to any malware virus. All you need to do is make sure you do not grant permission to any malware. If an app asks you for root access to the root file system, make sure you know what that app is and do not just allow permission to any app you do not recognize.
