These are the instructions to root the Sony Xperia M2 Dual. Once you have followed the guide and rooted your Sony device, you can install any app that’s available from the Google Play Store and other third-party sources.

Just be sure you only download from trusted sources so you do not accidentally install malware. You are voiding the device warranty by following the guide below. You’ll need to research what you must do to get that warranty working again after you unroot the device.

The Files You Need

  • Download the custom kernel from this XDA Developers page.
  • Download the SuperSU zip file from this Chainfire link.
  • You must have the Sony Xperia bootloader unlocked before following this guide. You wipe the data when unlocking the bootloader. Therefore, make sure you backup the data so you can restore the same data later.

  7. Type the second command: “fastboot reboot”.
  8. The custom kernel is now installed and your device will reboot. Now it’s time to get the root access so you can install those roo-requirng apps.
  9. Don’t Unzip the SuperSU file you downloaded earlier and leave it on the desktop.
  10. Transfer the SuperSU to the internal SD card storage on your phone.
  11. Enter recovery mode on your Sony Xperia M2 Dual.
  12. Navigate to the ‘Install’ option from the main recovery menu.
  13. Browse the SD card and upload the SuperSU file.
  14. Confirm to install the SuperSU file.
  15. Navigate back to the main recovery menu and choose to reboot the system now.

Once your Xperia M2 Dual reboots, you can regain control of the Google account and head directly to the Google Play Store. Once you are there you can download any app — including all of those root-requiring ones you couldn’t use before. However, before doing that we suggest you install the root checker app from the Google Play Store to check everything went as intended.
