Rooting your Android operating system on the Samsung Galaxy Tab gives you the opportunity to do so much more than you can do with your device out of the box. When your devices comes to you out of the box it comes with the operating system locked.

That version of locked is different from your phone carrier network locking you with a service provider. The OS lock means factory restrictions which prevent you from using the device like you would have if those same restrictions weren’t in place. The good news is you can remove them easily enough on your Galaxy Tab 8.0 by following the guide below.

The Files You Need

  1. You must unlock the bootloader on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 before you can use this guide. You won’t find a guide that doesn’t require the bootloader unlocked.
  2. Download the rooting bundle from this page. The bundle comes with the Odin version you can use in the guide.
  3. Download the Samsung USB drivers from the Samsung Developers page here.
  4. You can download a different version of the Odin tool from this page if you are finding the other version not working.
  5. You are voiding the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 warranty by following this guide. You can normally unroot and return the Galaxy Tab to the stock ROM and the warranty will start working once again.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 SM-T335L

  1. Download the rooting bundle for the SM-T335L device from the link above directly to the desktop of the computer.
  2. Right-click over the file once it’s on your desktop and select the “extract here” option.
  3. Make sure you have the USB Debugging Mode enabled on your Tab 8.0 device by navigating over to the Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
  4. On the Galaxy Tab device, navigate to the Device Options and select the option to switch it off. Otherwise you can long-press the Power button until the tab device turns off.
  5. Reboot the Galaxy Tab into download mode by holding the Power and the Volume Down + Home buttons at the same time.
  6. Connect the Samsung Galaxy Tab to the computer when it’s in the Odin download mode.
  7. When your Samsung drivers are working, the ID: COM port in the Odin user-interface will light up with a color. The color is usually yellow but could be blue.
  8. Click the PDA button if you are using the Odin that came with the bundle or the AP button if you are using a newer version.
  9. Browse the desktop for the CF-Root executable file that comes out of the extracted bundle on your desktop.
  10. Leave the default settings in the Odin app on the computer. When you down load the Odin tool new, it always come with the default settings.
  11. Click the Start button and the Odin app on the computer will now flash that CF-Root file on your device to grant the rooting permission.
  12. Wait until the message box in the Odin user-interface gives you the pass message and your Galaxy Tab reboots.
  13. Once it is rebooted, you can unplug from the computer and enjoy your rooted device.
  14. The first thing most people like to do is install the root checker app just to double-check the device does have the root access.
  15. From there, your options are limitless within the Google Play Store. One of the best apps for rooted users is the Wakelock Detector which finds out what is draining your device’s battery when it is idling.
