The Motorola Moto Maxx by Verizon root method is up for grabs by applying the following steps. But first you should note that the guide works for those running the Android 4.4.X KitKat software update. if your device is not up to date with the latest software on offer, you can any time press the Settings > About Device . Software Update > Check For Updates and start the installation.
Android 5.0 Lollipop is the latest software on offer, but this phone doesn’t have it out yet. That means if you are running Lollipop in future you should check for another guide because these steps might not work.
We are listing many of the essentials you should learn before we begin. That way you know everything including what you need, what the risks are involved after the guide, how to get out of trouble, and most importantly, how to revert the smartphone back to stock Android if you want that later.
Details of Note
- The following does void any remaining warranty you might have on the device. You will gain the same privileges back again by returning to stock Android without the root access.
- If you decide you are done with rooting and wish to return back the device the way it was you can do that by downloading and installing the root checker and unroot pro application from the Google Play store.
- You don’t have to have a custom recovery before coming here because we are adding the TWRP for you during the guide.
- Don’t start the steps unless you have backed up the data. You won’t automatically lose data by applying the guide. However, if you apply a factory reset or if something goes wrong you will lose the data. Backup using a third-party application from the Google Play Store or by using the built-in backup feature that comes with the handset.
- You must have a Windows computer to follow our guide with installing Android SDK. It’s true the same is available for Mac and Linux. However, you’ll need a different guide if you want to use one of those operating systems instead of Windows.
- Those of you happy using Windows will need to have Windows XP, Vista, 7 or any of the Windows 8 operating systems.
- Examine the USB drivers are working with the computer.
- Do not start unless you have the bootloader unlocked. Hit the link here for visiting the official Motorola website on how you can unlock the bootloader.
How to root the Motorola Moto Maxx and flash TWRP
- Download DatRoot from here to the desktop of the computer.
- Download Android SDK to get fastboot.
– if you have fastboot already you can just use that file. - Download TWRP recovery from here.
- Use the desktop for all items.
- Extract the TWRP recovery and the fastboot files to the desktop so we can work with the same.

- Connect the phone to the computer.
- transfer the DatRoot file over to the internal SD card.
- Do not unzip the rooting file we are transferring.
- Open the command line and type “adb reboot recovery”
- Wait until the device reboot in recovery mode.
- Select the “install’ option from the menu and upload the same DatRoot zip file.
- Go back out of there and select “reboot system now” from the main menu in recovery.
Now you are running with root access, Team Win’s recovery and gained some experience with Android SDK, ADB and fastboot. You can start installing custom ROMS for your device. Hopefully more will be available over time. Likewise, you can start installing extra applications from Google Play. Some of our favorites include Full!screen, children tracker, BBQ Screen, FPS Meter, Experience pro and Unicon. There are loads more available from the same place. You can use Google for a search on more applications which you might enjoy, or use our search bar.
