Brave is a free and open-source web browser developed by Brave Software, Inc. based on the Chromium web browser. It blocks ads and website trackers, and provides a way for users to send cryptocurrency contributions in the form of Basic Attention Tokens to websites and content creators along with the ability to keep the cryptocurrency they earned.
Brave does block ads by default for all websites upon visiting them. Additionally, it promotes the idea of pushing its own set of ads that it is in control of and then entices users by offering them some revenue share in those new ads. And to top this off, they founded this idea while using Chromium open-source code as a base for the browser code which is code that has been developed by Google, Microsoft, and other proprietary software that each display sympathy toward publishers.
