Sony are still insisting on banging out the flagship Xperia devices and people keep coming to them. This time it is the Z2 from the company in Kōnan Minato, Tokyo that they hope takes the world by storm in 2014.

There have been many talks about whether Sony has done enough to deserve an upgrade over the old device. Companies love to do just enough to give people a reason and it does manage to outshine most of the competition with its 20 megapixel camera. What makes that news even more interesting is that rivals Samsung and HTC had a point of emphasis in their cameras because they did not come up with anything fantastic either other than the fingerprint scanner.

The Z2 will be running Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box that is the latest Android operating system that everybody loves. It is smoother, faster and offers a much better battery life for most devices it has bene trialed with, as well as a few exclusive features you could not use on any other firmware build like jelly bean and the ones before it.

We cannot complain about the 5.2-inch high resolution display, or the NFC paired with 4g fast data speed. Just like the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 the Z2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset.

We do not like the SIM card tray as it is far too easy to wreck the SIM and intern the device at the same time. If you do damage it Sony does not fix this under warranty and you will struggle immensely trying to find a repair shop that will, That leaves your smartphone useless. I do not think Sony does this on purpose or anything like that, but it is a section I would like to see developed further that hasn’t been so far.

We also hate the lack of a release date which can’t be found from the official website and the websites like Amazon also appear to have no idea when it is either as the information is not on display. Our friends are telling us it is expected to be released next month during May.

The latest round up of news is calling this phone a Verizon exclusive now. That means it will not be coming to any other carriers across America except for the Big Red. It is big news because Verizon has not sold a Xperia device since the Xperia Play in 2011. Other notable phone carriers did sell the Xperia Z and Z1 so it would also be a huge surprise to see them not selling this Z2 such as T-Mobile. For now, it is only speculation and we’ll keep you posted once we learn more.

On a global scale things are a little different with Taiwan already seen the roll out begin on the 24th of March. Resident in Taiwan apparently loves what they get with the Xperia range so Sony deliberate looks after them first over there. It will then move on to Germany, France, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdon UK, Poland and Sweden.
