PurpleDrake is a method that roots a number of Android devices, including the latest LG G3. If you happen to have heard of this root method and you know that it would work for your phone but just do not know how to get it to work on your computer, the following guide should be helpful to you.

As said earlier, the method works for a number of Android devices and if you happen to have one that has been launched recently, it would probably be supported by the root method.

What makes PurpleDrake stand out of the crowd is that it is available for all three major operating systems in the world, namely Windows, Linux, and Mac. So, regardless of what operating system you use on your computer, you can use the tool to root your device. The instructions to use the tool, though, vary with the OS that you are running the tool on.

For instance, on Windows and Macs, you can just double-click the file to launch the tool, whereas Linux requires you to open Terminal and issue a couple of commands to get the tool running. No matter what, the tool is darn easy to use and gets the phone rooted in no time.

The tool works the best when you know how to properly use it, and for that very reason, we have got the following steps for each of those three operating systems. These steps teach you how you can get the tool running on your particular OS to then root your phone.

How to Use PurpleDrake Root Method on Windows

If you are with the majority and own a computer that runs Windows, using PurpleDrake on your computer is far easier than you think. Download the tool, launch the tool, and you are all set. Here’s how:

  1. Download PurpleDrake from the XDA Forums thread to your computer.
  2. Extract the tool by double-clicking on the archive and selecting Extract here.
  3. Turn on the USB debugging option on your phone by heading to Menu->Settings->Developer options.
  4. Plug in your phone to your computer using a suitable USB cable.
  5. Double-click on purpledrake_windows on your computer and it should launch.
  6. The tool should guide you through the rooting process with the on-screen instructions.
  7. Follow the instructions and you will move forward with the root process.
  8. When the tool’s done rooting your phone, reboot your phone.
  9. What the tool does not do is install SuperSU on your phone. You need to do it manually by launching Google Play on your phone, searching for and tapping on SuperSU, and installing it on your phone.
  10. Open SuperSU once it is installed on your phone.
  11. Allow the app to update the binaries.
  12. When the binaries are updated, close the app.
  13. You are rooted!

So, that was how you could root an Android phone with the PurpleDrake method. As said in the steps, the method does not install SuperSU automatically, you need to grab it manually from the Google Play store.

How to Use PurpleDrake Root Method on Linux

If you love open-source and have a computer that runs Linux, you are also covered by the aforesaid rooting tool.

Here’s how you can use the PurpleDrake Tool on your Linux computer:

  1. Download the PurpleDrake Tool to your computer. Make sure you download it to the downloads folder on your Linux computer.
  2. Open Terminal on your Linux computer.
  3. Type in the following command and hit return to extract the downloaded archive.
    tar xvf ~/Downloads/PurpleDrake-Lite_VERSION.tar.gz
  4. Run the following commands using Terminal and the tool will launch.
    cd PurpleDrake-Lite
    chmod +x purpledrake_linux.sh
    ./purpledrake_linux.sh
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions and you should be able to root your phone.
  6. Once the phone is rooted, head over to the Google Play store and download and install SuperSU on your phone.
  7. You are now fully rooted!

So, that is how the tool works on a Linux computer. It was not that difficult to use the tool on your Linux machine, was it?

How to Use PurpleDrake Root Method on Mac

If you are an Apple fan and use a machine that runs the OS X, the tool should also work on your machine. And here’s how:

  1. Download the PurpleDrake Tool to your Mac.
  2. Enable the USB debugging option on your phone from Menu->Settings->Developer options.
  3. When USB debugging is enabled, connect your phone to your computer using a suitable USB cable.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions given by the tool to gain root access on your phone.
  7. When the tool’s done rooting your phone, head over to the Google Play store and download and install SuperSU on your phone.
  8. Your phone should now be fully rooted!

So, that was how you could root your Android phone using the PurpleDrake tool on a Mac.

The tool has made rooting many of the Android phones much easier than ever, and you should definitely use it to root your phone if it is supported by the tool.
