Owners of the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet have a new 23.0.1.A.4.30 firmware build rolling out over the air. The build keeps the same 4.4.4 KitKat number but upgrades the performance. There is no official change-log that we know of yet. It’s our guess that it’s a security and performance update. We don’t know any feature changes. Keep an eye on the notifications panel for the OTA. Otherwise you can navigate to Menu > Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check for software updates. The new firmware is rolling out in periods so it may arrive for some people today while others will be waiting until next week.
The new firmware is arriving for the WiFi models including the SGP511 SGP512 numbers for selected phone carrier networks. Others are still coming.
Since the Sony Xperia Z2 tablet already had the Android 4.4.4 kitkat update that came with a bevy of features including PS4 Remote Play, Sony DSEE HX technology for WALKMAN, Ultra STAMINA Mode, Hi-Res Audio playback and improved Quick Settings, we don’t think there’s many features to add until Lollipop. The earlier 4.4.4 update also came with AR fun, Face in, Smart Social Camera software suite and more.
If there are any Z2 tablet owners reading the post, we appreciate your comments if you are using the new firmware version on your tablets. We think you’ll find a smoother and faster OS with less bugs. Let us know if you find any features!
