Shop app (shop.app) is a shopping app.
DESCRIPTION
The homepage of shop.app had moving pictures in the background, in the shape of small to medium-sized tiles. Each of the tiles had a unique picture in it related to the things that it sold on the site. In front of these rotating tiles was a search box I could use to search for products. In my opinion, this navigation wasn’t yet optimized because although I may know what the brand is vaguely, I may not know specifically what the site sells. If I don’t know what it sells, what am I typing into the search box? I don’t feel as confident with the shop.app search box as I do one of the world’s largest search engines, so I would assume many people wouldn’t bother searching. I tried searching for some common modern technical things such as “iPhone 15” and it did return some results related to the smartphone such as cases.
HISTORY
As of December 2023, shop.app has 103.6 million monthly views. Shop.app was founded on April 28, 2020. The Internet Archive has saved shop.app 8,007 times between April 28, 2020 and January 20, 2024.
Is shop.app Safe?
Here, I analyzed shop.app for malware and malicious content to check if it was legit or a scam:
I checked shop.app on Sucuri, and it returned as a medium security risk.
Sucuri says shop.app is a medium security risk because it returned a 403 Forbidden on the URL http://shop.app/.
I then ran a parasite scan with Unmask Parasites on shop.app, and it is suspicious.
Unmask Parasites cites 1 suspicious inline script:
(function(){window._cf_chl_opt={cvId: '3',cZone: "shop.app",cType: 'managed',cNounce: '45996',cRay: '8486505caa752bef',cH...
I also checked shop.app on VirusTotal, and it is clean.
URLVoid says shop.app passed all blocklist engines.
In conclusion, Sucuri says shop.app is a medium security risk because it returned a 403 Forbidden on the URL http://shop.app/. Unmask Parasites says shop.app is suspicious. VirusTotal and Sucuri say shop.app isn’t malicious or blacklisted. OVERALL GRADE: Relatively Safe.

I would call shop.app a search engine for shopping. On the homepage is a search box with suggestions inside for keywords you may wish to shop for (that also suggest topics they cover well). They have a variety of stuff from BBQs to clothing. I bought some lights. The results show you the name of the light along with its picture, review rating, and price when available. The thumbnails are similar to Pinterest, only smaller. Though small, they are rightly sized to be able to see and shop comfortably. I found many sales on lights when I shopped. The delivery was prompt and I would use them again.
Many websites have search boxes and can be viewed as search egnines in a vague sense but don't fit the technical defintion. We call a site a search engine when it offers little value beyond the searching for things located on other websites. Since shop.app allows you to shop directly, it is more akin to ebay.com than google.com for instance. Thanks -- Mathew.
