After initially being announced in September of 2013 and released later in the same month, the Samsung Galaxy Note has started off with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. From there it received Android 4.4 KitKat and now we have a new version of Android 4.4.2 KitKat that has the build number of XXUEND6 to download and install to your devices to have you up to date as possible.
Remember that this is a stock software update that came OTA for many. If the device is already unchained it will take the root access away by following the guide below.
Checklist
- First, make sure that you have the Note 3 with the model number N9005 before going any further. Failing to install this on the correct device could result in damage.
- Backup all of your personal data, call logs, EFS SMS and MMS text messages as well as contacts and any other information to the devices internal memory. If you are running out of built-in storage space than Samsung offer any external options such as a MicroSD card bought from electronic stores.It will now offer extra storage space. Always backup before installing the firmware, ROMs or rooting for when data is lost. Having said that, we do not anticipate any issues with data loss and there is not meant to be any. As you know with technology anything can happen and this is a precautionary measure.
- Speaking of roots, if you do have that access already you will want to be aware that it will be revoked when following this guide. That means it is taken away until you follow another root guide again.
- Temporarily disable any antivirus or antimalware protection that is running on the computer that we will use Odin. Because we connect the phablet to the computer, it too can come across problems. So, if you have the same thing on the device as well, turn it off for now. A lot of Android users and just about every Windows PC user have security software and it can interfere with proceedings. Just remember to turn it back on again so you do not browse the internet with it off. That would be awful! If you completely uninstalled your security by accident, there is some great free versions available such as the one I use now called AVG antivirus.
- Connectivity-wise the Note 3 has three main options. They are USB mass storage, USB host and USB charging. The last option means that when I plug this into the computer with a USB cable it will automatically start to charge up. It uses the computer power to act like a separate charger. Because I know this there is no need to worry about how much battery power your big smartphone possess before starting. However, some blogs will recommend having over 80% remaining.
- Enable USB Debugging mode by switching on the smartphone and going to Menu > Settings > Applications > Developer options and enable the option.

How To Install XXUEND6 Android 4.4.2 KitKat On The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005 LTE
1. Download the new firmware file to the Windows-based computer from here.
2. Extract the file containing the firmware.
3. Download the latest Odin 3.09.
4. Extract the file to the C: Drive. Go to Start > Search Box > Type in Odin and the file will come up. Double click the file.
It is easier if you set both the contents in the same folder. If not, just remember where they are saved. If it makes it easier for you just use the desktop and then delete the file once the guide it finished.
5. Open the Odin application up/
Do it before following the next step otherwise it will not show us the connection.
6. Find the USB cable. It could be used as part of the charger you use every day if you did not see it.
7. Plug one end into the USB port of the computer. Usually they are located at the front down near the “on” button. Otherwise, take a look at the back of the system unit.
8. Plug the other end into the mobile device. Only one end will fit so this is how you know which way to have it.
9. Look inside Odin for an “added” message and the ID: Port changing color. It tells us that it was successful.
10. Notice Odin already has some default settings with some boxes checked that mark them as being on. Leave these settings exactly the way they are.
11. Click the PDA button and upload the file with the “code” extension in the name.
12. Click on the Phone button and upload the file with “Modem” in the name.
13. Do the same thing with the CSC file.
Note: if there is a pit file inside you can upload that to the pit area. Doing so will require the re-partition box to be marked as on though.
14. Click start and wait for flashing to finish.
15. When finished, it will say “pass” and turn green.
16. Shut down the Odin program.
17. Right-click the Windows taskbar and select the “safely remove hardware” option. Stop the USB Mass storage device. Disconnect when it says it is now safe to do so.
