Steven Sinofsky, the man we all just watched give the presentation for the Windows 8 and Surface RT, has left Microsoft as of today effective immediately. Sinofsky was the head of the Windows department, and this comes as a big shock to everyone outside of the Microsoft headquarters.
The timing of his departure does, however, come not long after CNET uncovered a story in which Sinofsky and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer were apparently warrings.
Microsoft released a statement earlier today, announcing that Sinofsky’s departure was an agreement. “I am grateful for the years Steve spent with the company,” Ballmer told the media in his official statement.
When Sinofsky was asked for a statement, he too didn’t imply there was any warring going on between him and the Redmond company:
”It is impossible to count the blessings I have received over my years at Microsoft. I am humbled by the professionalism and generosity of everyone I have had the good fortune to work with at this awesome company.”
Julie Larson-Green will now lead the Microsoft Windows department where Sinofsky left off for now.
