T-Mobile network subscribers are finding a new over the air update that boost the OS to M919UVUFNK2 M9Android 4.4.4 KitKat. OTA means it arrives automatically and when alert you with a system notification when it’s ready to install on your device. All you need to do is accept the file by tapping the “download” option followed by “install now.” However, don’t install the file unless you are using a WiFi connection. The T-Mo carrier network will have high amounts of network traffic from other subscribers downloading the same software update as you. High traffic creates instability, enhancing your chances of requiring a reset. Factory resets do wipe the data, so unless you backed up the data before starting you’ll lose it all. Cases like this are rare and rather than scaring you away from updating, it’s time to focus on what’s inside the new build number.
As you can see, it stays on the Android 4.4.4 KitKat even though heaps of devices are updating to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the coming weeks ahead. The great news is that Sammy are officially underway with installing Lolipop on the S5 flagship smartphone. That means the S4 installments aren’t far away. In the mean time, you are about to enjoy one of the last KitKat builds available for this phone.
The M919UVUFNK2 firmware comes with Chinese language support. You may also find some small bug fixes. The main reason for the update is including the Chinese langue though, so if you don’t have any interest in Chinese there’s not much news here. That said, it’s rare to find a software update that doesn’t address bugs, even if the official change-log isn’t mentioning any bugs. If you are experiencing a less than stellar software experience, update to the latest version when you can.
Those of you who extend outside the realms of phone carrier and manufacturer possibilities with root access must understand that installing OTA’s takes away the root privileges. Most devices with root access install Superuser or SuperSu along with the SU binaries. You’ll lose the root access after installing official over the air software updates because the OTA moves the system partition back like it was out of the factory. Furthermore, the results remove the SU binary. You can try solving this problem by installing the OTA RootKeeper application from the Google Play Store.
Correspondingly, you now can flash the M919UVUFNK2 firmware file manually by visiting the link here. Make sure you enable the USB Debugging Mode from the Developer Options menu, have the up to date USB Drivers and reserve enough battery power to see through the flashing process without the phone or computer shutting down. That means checking on the notebook or laptop battery power too if it’s not plugged into the wall outlet. Moreover, you want to back up the data using Samsung Kies, Helium, G Cloud backup, SMS backup+ or any other app of your choice. Google Drive offer free space if you are running out of internal storage space for data.
From there you ought to download a suitable version of Odin, boot the Galaxy S4 in Download Mode by pressing Vol Up, Power And Home keys at the same time. Now connect the S4 to the computer using the USB cable upload the firmware file through the PDA or AP button, leave the default settings in the Odin app and click the start button to begin the flashing.
Only flash the firmware file for the SGH – M919 model number. The Galaxy S4 comes in several different model numbers. Turn the phone on and navigate to the Settings > About Device to check yours. If it doesn’t match up with the same, don’t install the file.
