If you don’t mind running one of the older classic Android operating systems and are into something that looks sublimely different, then maybe the LG GT540 Optimus is the right Android mobile for you. It wasn’t released without its flaws; it did have a subpar touch screen experience, parts are hard to come by as well as a few other downfalls. However, all in all, the phone is a good device, especially for rooting. On top of that, it draws more of a resemblance to my old electric shaver than any mobile phone I’ve seen before, but who am I to judge? Undoubtedly some will think it’s beautiful, and that’s all that matters.
I mentioned earlier a classic Android operating system. When I said classic, I wasn’t referring to the brilliance of the Gingerbread generation, which I still enjoy using to this day. What I was referring to is the even older Android 1.6 operating system. Yes, that one. It’s old and very outdated and lacks many features, but if you have this phone, all hope is not lost. Why not root it and install a custom ROM on it? If I have twisted your arm, there are a few things you will need.
Notes:
- Make sure you have the LG GT540 Optimus USB drivers. You may have this already if you use the device regularly, in which case you can skip this step. This is necessary to connect the device to the computer, and to upgrade the official firmware.
- You will also need to have USB debugging mode enabled to complete this guide. You can follow the link that I provided and find out how to do that if you don’t know already.
Root LG GT540 Optimus
Step 1. Using the Gt540 Optimus keys, dial the number: 3845#*540#
Step 2. From here you will need to select the stability test option followed by the enable root permission option.
Step 3. After doing this it will now prompt you to enter a password. The password you need to enter is as follows: :SWIFT::GT540:
Step 4. After entering this password your GT540 will now have gained root access.
Step 5. Turn your device off and back on again. Once it is booted up head over to the Google Play store and get your hands on the Superuser app.
Step 6. Once you download this app the process will have been completed.
Now that you’re finished, you can instantly download rooted apps. Furthermore, you may be interested in checking out some of the best custom ROMs.
