You will also need to have USB debugging mode enabled to complete this guide. This helps to connect your Android phone with the PC.

You will need to make sure you have the Samsung Galaxy USB drivers. This is necessary when you connect the device to the computer. You have to connect it to the computer to root the device.

Before you begin:

  • Back up your device.
  • Make sure your device has at least 80% battery life.
  • Download ODIN v3.04.
  • Download and install Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro drivers.
  • Note: This root is compatible for devices running Android Jelly Bean and Ice Cream Sandwich.

Root Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro SGH-I547 & Install CWM Recovery

Step 1. First you need to download and save the following appropriate files to your desktop:

  • CWMR Root
  • Stock Recovery Image (UCLI3)
  • CWM 6.0.1.9 Recovery Image (KemoNine)
  • CWM 6.0.1.5 Recovery Image (utkanos)

Step 2. You need to copy the CWMR root file that you have just downloaded to your device’s internal SD card. If you see both the external and internal SD card visible at this time make sure you copy it to both.

Step 3. Switch off your device and disconnect it from the USB.

Step 4. Now boot it into download mode. To achieve this, simply hold down the ‘Home’ + ‘Power’ + ‘Volume Down’ buttons at the same time. You will be asked if you wish to continue, at this stage press the ‘Volume Up’ button to gain access to download mode.

Step 5. Connect your device to your PC via USB.

Step 6. Double click on ODIN to launch it.

Step 7. Once open, select the ‘PDA’ check box and click on ‘PDA’.

Step 8. Locate and select the comanche_cwr_6015_utkanos.tar.md5 file.

Step 9. At this stage make sure that you have selected ‘F. Reset Time’ only. And that ‘Auto Reboot’ is not selected. Then press ‘Start’.

Step 10. When you see the word ‘PASS’ in the progress screen and it has turned green you can switch off your device and unplug it from the USB once again.

Step 11. You need to boot into CWM Recovery, to achieve this press and hold the ‘Power’ + ‘Home’ + ‘Volume Up’ buttons at the same time. Once the Samsung logo appears you can release them.

Step 12. Select the following: ‘Install zip from sd card’ > ‘Choose zip from sd card’.

Step 13. Navigate and select the zip file you saved to your internal SD card in step 2.

Step 14. Confirm your selection and your device should reboot.
