Another software update is passing through the United States PTCRB website which looks minor for the Z3 Dual handset. Judging by the report, the new software update will not come with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Android 5.0.1 Lollipop or Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. It is still staying on Android KitKat.
Since most of the Android KitKat features such as white status bar, white navigation bar, smoother ROM, wireless printing, new location menu, full screen album art from the lock screen, full screen movie art from the lock screen were already patched in the earlier builds, we know the last stages of KitKat don’t carry as many features. That said, we are always listening to owners complaining of bugs and that’s generally what these minor update help.
Furthermore, it’s common to see some of the stock bloatware from Sony get update such as some of the Sony native applications and services. Hopefully this update isn’t a reshuffling of the bloatware and does something useful for owners.
As you almost certainly know already, just because a new software update is spotted on the PTCRB website, doesn’t mean it’s going to see the light of day with a release. Sometimes the manufacturers and phone carrier networks decide against the roll out even though it passes the test.
If it does start rolling out it happens in stages, meaning you all start seeing the arrival at different times. Moreover, sometimes updates come direct to the PC companion only, while others go to the Update Center for Sony. It can start arriving as a notification to smartphones over the next month.
If you notice the new 23.0.F.1.96 build for Sony Xperia Z3 Dual phones rolling out to devices, please let us know in the comments. Likewise, if you finish the installation and notice what’s inside, let the readers know. We’ll update the post with another story with everything we find out and bring you all there is to know after the build numbers release.
