As long as you own the HTC One M8 current flagship smartphone and are a subscriber to the AT&T phone carrier network, you are finding a new software update coming in over the air with the build number 1.58.502.1. It’s a new version of Android 4.4.4 KitKat that brings several new features I’ll tell you all about after the jump.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat generally comes with a revamped phone dialer with a slightly different color blue and different font in the dialer. Additionally, users find a Google security patch for the bug found in OpenSSL security. However, not all devices find those features. The new 1.58.502.1 firmware update for the HTC One M8 comes with “Extreme Power Saving” mode, LTE functionality improvements, Bluetooth enhancements, Ready-2-Go updates and more. Unfortunately, the official AT&T change-log doesn’t tell us what “more” is so we are left guessing. From our experience that could mean there are minor bug fixes and tweaks to the bloatware apps and services. Therefore, even if you don’t care about the new features listed on the support page, you should still update the software to the new version of you are experiencing bugs. There’s hope for some relief. You can read the official support page provided by the network here.

Many users are hoping to find the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA update rolling out by now as it’s already on a number of devices. We are witnessing the first batch of HTC handset finding the update too, but we must wait for each carrier network to push the Lollipop update.

Android 5.0 Lollipop comes with material design user interface, new material design in the app drawer, Android Beam, Android RunTime, pick up where you left off, multiple device support, important camera updates, a new battery saver mode of its own, improved security, tap and go NFC payments and more. Sadly you won’t be getting any of that yet, although we don’t think it’s long until you will start finding the official Lollipop update.

All you have to do is tap the “download” followed by “install now” option on the display when the notification arrives. You should only accept the installation if you are around a WiFi connection. Those in the car or away from home without WiFi should put the notification on hold and come back to it later. You can navigate to Settings > About Device > Software Updates and start installing the file that way.
