The PTRCB website shows us that a new 23.0.1.A.5.77 firmware build number is certified for the Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone and the Z3 Compact. As you likely know, certifications don’t always arrive to the Sony PC Companion or even over the air as a notification. Furthermore, we can’t tell you what’s inside the update until the first batch of releases arrive.

Since the Xperia Z3 already sits on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with PS4 Remote Play, Audio improvements with Sony DSEE HX technology for WALKMAN, Hi-Res Audio playback, improved Quick Settings and more, we don’t predict this firmware coming with many features. However, there’s a chance it’s Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Z3

We know Sony have demoed 5.0 Lollipop for the Xperia Z3, Z2 and Z1 smartphones already. Furthermore, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition is witnessing Android 5.0 rolling out now. The only other device in the Japanese phone-makers line-up to have Lollipop is the G Pad.

Sony clearly have a great relationship with the Mountain View company at the moment since the only other manufacturer of mobiles to have Lollipop is Motorola who were a Google company last year.

Please let us know in the comments as soon as you start witnessing the new iteration rolling out to your handset. Moreover, you can always tell us your opinions and any changes you are noticing. As you probably know, it can take weeks until the last certification stages turn into releases, or it can take only a matter of days. There’s no way of finding out when it’s coming.
