The Samsung Galaxy Round has been the name given to the new phone that has a flexible display. News broke of the official release date for this phone a short while ago; that date will be the 10th of October 2013.

There has been much debate over the importance of the Galaxy Round. When the new Smartphone was first found out about it was huge news. That dimmed down a bit once people started realizing that there isn’t much use for a flexible screen without a flexible shell to go along with it.

To counter that notion, Samsung has given the phone a noticeable curve in the shape of it. Whether this has any real purpose or is just a gimmick to show off the capabilities is yet to be seen.

Sony is also said to be releasing a version of their own that has these plastic screens instead of glass around about the same time.

Apple only just released their iPhone range, so there most likely won’t be any entries for the fruit company any time soon on this new flex front.

The Galaxy Round was release today, October 8 in press renders. This was just a single image of the front shown. It did manage to show off the curve embedded in and you can see it featured in the image.

The phone is said to be coming with some other cool things such as the “gravity effect”. This will give visual interaction between the screen and the user. That’s about as in depth as Samsung have been worth it, but we’ll see a lot more of that over the next 48 hours.

The Round will have a 5.7 inch display made out of Super AMOLED materials. A “super” step up from anything we have seen before.

The screen resolution is expected to be resolution of 1080 x 1920 to go along with a quad-core 2.3GHz processor. There will also be 3.0 GB of RAM inside.

By the way of operating systems it will be sporting the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
