A new software update is rolling out to the Sony Xperia Z1 smartphone namely 14.1.A.0.133 to countries such as Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Spain, Poland and other parts of Europe. Nonetheless, thanks to some clever people around the web we have two locations where you can download the new update manually from anywhere in the world and have the same firmware running on your Z1 handset.

The Sony team did not release a change log with the new software, but knowing from experience it will come with bug fixes and stability improvements. It’s not often we are exposed to new features and that do not get reported.

The Z1 phone came out of the box with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and has seen numerous updates since then including the likes of Android 4.3, 4.4 Kitkat and 4.4.2 KitKat. So far Android 4.4.2 brought white status bar icons, new Emoji faces, wireless printing, better Wi-Fi connectivity, album art from the lock screen, improved speed, better performance and overall UI changes to further optimize the user experience. In addition, we saw plenty aimed at Xperia devices only including PlayStation 4 UI similarities, Smart Social Camera, new Sony Media apps, Sony SmartWear Experience and more.

People can download the GPL-mandated kernel source code for the 14.4.A.0.133 firmware from Sony Developer World. You can pick up the open source files from the official websitepage here. Similarly, get a hold of it here on the XDA Developers website from the FTF Meha collection.
