The Motorola Moto X 2014 is the second-generation flagship smartphone under the Motorola name. While it’s the flagship from Motorola, it doesn’t mean that it competes with the best smartphones out there. Simply put, this is not an iPhone killer. However, it isn’t priced as if it were meant to be either. That’s just one of the ways hearing the word flagship can be confusing.
More realistically, what we have here is an expensive mid-range handset. Everyone loved the first generation Moto X and how Motorola allowed users to customize their devices with new back-plates and more. However, if there was one downside it was that people found it too expensive. Motorola didn’t do much to quieten those concerns with the second-generation handset, as it was priced similarly to the first-generation. With that being said, it’s still a device that’s well worth owning and almost lives up to the price.
The Moto X comes with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. Since then it’s received Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 5.1 Lollipop. We are yet to see Android 6.0 Marshmallow, however, when it does come the Moto X will likely find it available over the air. The other cheaper handsets under the Motorola name might not be so lucky.
Furthermore, the Moto X comes with a 5.2-inch display, 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 423 ppi pixel density — nearly double that of the Motorola Moto E handset of the same year. Buyers will also get a 13 megapixel camera on the rear, a 2 megapixel front-facing snapper, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 8974-AC system chip, Quad core, 2500 MHz, Krait 400 processor and 2048 MB RAM system memory.
The Moto X 2014 is available from US Cellular, Verizon and AT&T.
