The Microsoft Surface 2 and Pro 2 launched over the summer holiday period in the United States, and they’ve been called not very good by the time thanksgiving has come around. The new Microsoft Surface tablet models have had some problems working it seems, according to owners.
The first problem is overheating, something you never want a device to be doing. It can shorten the life of just about every bit of hardware inside, as well as cause you immediate grief with it is switching itself on and off because it can’t cope with the temperatures.
The other problem has been a dim screen. When looking at the screens of the Surface Pro and Pro 2 it isn’t bright enough for many onlookers. Being a tablet, they come out of the box with one settings by default that has already been decided on by the Redmond company. This is arguably the second worst thing users would want to be dealing with. Luckily we are arriving at the joyful time of the year that is also the time for forgiving.
The last thing we had heard was that MS was going to town on a new mini version of these models. That might put on hold for now. If it does end up coming out, they will likely have spent time making sure this problem doesn’t end up being inside any news ones coming.
The start of November saw a firmware update. Many users were loving this as it made the battery last longer than what it did when it first came out. When the advertising campaigns started for these new tablets Microsoft called them quicker and better. So far that hasn’t been the case.
“Surface devices may dim the screen as thermal temperatures rise from extended, high CPU intensive activities – like gaming. In some scenarios this does not seem necessary… We’re working on a tuning update that will remove this unnecessary dimming event. You can expect this update in an upcoming Windows Update package. In the meantime, allow the Surface to cool down for a minute or so to return the screen to previous brightness levels.”-Microsoft spokesman
