As long as you are a subscriber of the AT&T phone carrier network and own the Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-i747, it’s time to lookout for a fresh notification arriving to the phone’s screen. The notification will alert customers of a new Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update that is available for installation. The new build number is KOT49H.I747UCUFNJ1 and it comes with Android operating system enhancements. The aforementioned build number marks the fourth update we’ve seen since July of 2013. You can view the official change-log here.

The details are short and sweet with this build as they haven’t announced any other facts about what’s inside. However, you should understand that the overall file size of the upgrade is 69 MB. That means it’s large enough to come with upgrades you don’t want to miss out on. We suspect much of the weight of the file size comes for bug fixes. Nevertheless, since the word enhancements is described, we know that you will have a smoother and faster ROM experience when using the phone compared to that of the older version.

We advise installing the new firmware over the air update using a stable home WiFi connection and avoid using the mobile data plan. Other subscribers will be using the mobile data for downloading the same update as you and that leads to heavy traffic. High traffic leads to a less stable connection and that’s where things can turn pear-shaped for your installation.

If you are away from WiFi when the message comes in, you can always put it on hold and navigate to the Settings > More > About Device > Software Updates > Check For Updates and begin the installation manually that way.

Are you using the new build yet? If so, let us know what you think in the comments. Did you notice any difference when comparing it with the older software version?

The Samsung Galaxy S3 likely won’t see the official Android 5.0 Lollipop release. We are coming to the end of the software releases for this model. However, users can upgrade to 5.0 Lollipop using a CyanogenMod 12 Custom ROM.
