A custom recovery image is the only way you can think about installing a custom ROM on your Asus Infinity Pad. Further, if you want to back up easier than ever before, you’ll want to boot the Pad into that same custom recovery and choose to take a backup from the menu. While it doesn’t give you the name in full, this is actually a NANDroid backup — something I’m sure most of you have already heard about before gaining root access.

With a NANDroid backup, you get the opportunity to take a complete snapshot of the current ROM. That saves you oodles of time searching around the Google Play Store stacking up all the different apps to backup different data. Usually it’s impossible to save all a device’s data with just the one app. For example, Helium is really popular, but you cannot save much more than just the application on your device. The rest of the data require unique apps.

Thankfully, Samsung solves that issue by letting users backup the phone contacts using the built-in backup option. that said, a NANDroid backup is still much easier. Since there probably aren’t too many custom ROMs available for the Transformer Pad, the NANDroid backup should be one of the main reasons for installing a custom recovery.

There are three main custom recoveries we usually write about. TWRP Recovery as at the top of that list during 2015 as the most popular with Android users. However, the other options such as Philz Touch recovery and CWM recovery as just as neat. Most people are using the TWRP recovery because the menu’s are easier to read and it comes with the touch feature.

The files you need:

  • Download the TWRP recovery from this site directly to your computer.
  • You must download and install ADB and Fastboot on your computer before starting.
