A custom recovery image is the only way you can think about installing a custom ROM on your Asus Infinity Pad. Further, if you want to back up easier than ever before, you’ll want to boot the Pad into that same custom recovery and choose to take a backup from the menu. While it doesn’t give you the name in full, this is actually a NANDroid backup — something I’m sure most of you have already heard about before gaining root access.
With a NANDroid backup, you get the opportunity to take a complete snapshot of the current ROM. That saves you oodles of time searching around the Google Play Store stacking up all the different apps to backup different data. Usually it’s impossible to save all a device’s data with just the one app. For example, Helium is really popular, but you cannot save much more than just the application on your device. The rest of the data require unique apps.
Thankfully, Samsung solves that issue by letting users backup the phone contacts using the built-in backup option. that said, a NANDroid backup is still much easier. Since there probably aren’t too many custom ROMs available for the Transformer Pad, the NANDroid backup should be one of the main reasons for installing a custom recovery.
There are three main custom recoveries we usually write about. TWRP Recovery as at the top of that list during 2015 as the most popular with Android users. However, the other options such as Philz Touch recovery and CWM recovery as just as neat. Most people are using the TWRP recovery because the menu’s are easier to read and it comes with the touch feature.
The files you need:
- Download the TWRP recovery from this site directly to your computer.
- You must download and install ADB and Fastboot on your computer before starting.
Installing TWRP Recovery on the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T
- Download the TWRP Manager from the Google Play Store on this page.
- Install the TWRP Manager application as you would any other app. You’ll need your Google Play details to sign into your Google account first.
- Open the app up from the app drawer on your Asus transformer device after it’s finished downloading.
- Grant the root privileges to the app.
- Follow the easy on-screen instructions to finish the job.
- Those who did not want to install an app can do the same job using Fastboot.
- Completely power down the tablet. Reboot it by tapping the Volume Down + holding the Power button to get into the Fastboot mode. You might need to press Volume Up from the next screen when selecting the USB icon.
- If entering Fastboot mode didn’t work for you, try doing it with the device already turned on.
- Connect the transformer to the computer where you have Fastboot by using the USB cable.
- Open the folder where you have Fastboot on the computer, press the Shift key and right-click the computer mouse. A new menu will appear. One of the options in that menu is for opening the command window. Do that now.
- Type the command: “fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash recovery twrp.blob” and press Enter on the keyboard to confirm the command.
Now should now have the TWRP installed after you reboot the device.
