Not only is it harder for developers and hackers to create a jailbreak for iOS compared to a root for Android, but the processes seem to always be that much more complex also. Especially when it comes to downgrading, preserving base-bands so that you can then jailbreak using a certain tool for a certain firmware. It just goes on and on. Now, though, there has been a handy break through to at least make restoring a jailbreak to stock settings simple, and it comes with a tool called ilex Rat.

This is a brand new tool that has just been released a few days back. So how does it work and how do I install it? We’ll run you through everything you need to know below.

The first thing you need to do is of course install ilex Rat. To do that you need to add a new repository on Cydia. Launch Cydia, followed by selecting Manage and then sources. Click Edit and then Add. In the Add field put in the following: http://cydia.myrepospace.com/iLEXiNFO/

Now you have the new sources which will appear in your Cydia sources list. Click on the new source we just installed and select the iLex Rat package. Once you have done this you can expect several new icons to appear on the device.

Next we need to grab the mobile terminal. You can get this from repositories such as the BigBoss repo.

A disclaimer: Mobicuppa isn’t responsible for any damage or loss of data during this guide. That said, it is important to of course back up your device before you start if anything were to go wrong during the installation process.

1. From the mobile terminal downloaded, type: ‘rat’ to the command line. Confirm by hitting enter.

This will now boot the iLex Rat software.

2. Scroll down to option 12 which is listed as full restore.

3. Reboot the device when it prompts you to. It may take some time for the process to complete.

4. Upon reboot, you can expect a stock device staring back at you. No more bloatware, and increased performance.
