There’s only one way to return your Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone back the way it was out of the box and that is by unrooting the device. Once you have successfully unroot the aforementioned device, you can use it under warranty.

In addition to the warranty benefits, you can install official OTA updates if there still are any to come for your device. You’ll also have additional security benefits and it is much harder for malware to attack your device.

What Is Rooting the Android Operating System?

When you buy a new smartphone, you might not know it, but the Android operating system is in a “locked” state. For the most part, it will not make much difference to you: most apps are still available to use, and there are benefits to this locked state such as better security. When you root the Android operating system, you are gaining full administrative rights over the OS.

Why Would You Want to Root Android?

Gaining full administrative rights over the operating system has some perks to some people. For example, out of the millions of applications available on Google Play, some of them will not be able to run on your device unless it has root access. Until you have a specific need for wanting Android rooted, you probably want to leave Android as it comes out of the box. But if you need to unlock an app, then that is when you want to look into rooting methods. Using more apps is only one example of why you may want root access, here is the full list of benefits:

  • Unlock more applications. Some of the apps available for Android cannot run unless you have root access. This is because the app’s features cannot run without the root permissions because the features require the full system access before they can be useful.

  • These are the steps to unroot the Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone. The steps we are showing you today will flash a stock software update on your device manually. When we do this manually it takes away the root access and doesn’t risk bricking your device. Furthermore, once you have done it manually once like you are in this guide, you can then accept automatic updates over the air. That means you no longer have to install software updates (firmware) manually.
  • That same process repeats itself if you were to ever get root access on the Ascend P1 again in the future.

Unrooting The Huawei Ascend P1

  1. Download the stock Android ROM from the link above in the files section directly to the computer desktop.
  2. Connect the Huawei P1 to the computer using the same USB cable you usually use with the device for charging the battery.
  3. Extract the firmware ROM folder and find the dload folder.
  4. Copy that dload folder over to the internal storage SD card on the P1 smartphone.
  5. Once you know you definitely copied the folder, unplug the handset from the computer and disconnect the USB cable.
  6. The only problem you might have with this guide is if you copied the dload folder to a sub folder and not the root of the SD card. if it’s not stored in the root of the SD card, you will not find the dload file during the next step.
  7. Completely power off the P1 smartphone by holding the Power key in for ten seconds to make sure it’s completely off.
  8. Now reboot the P1 holding this key sequence: Volume Up + Volume Down + Power.
  9. Do not let go of the buttons until the software update (firmware) flashing starts.
  10. Wait at least 5 minutes for the firmware to finish flashing on your smartphone. Now reboot the device when it’s done.
  11. You can check that the process worked by installing the root checker app. The app will tell you if it’s rooted, but it also works well to let you know if it’s unrooted.
