These are the guidelines to root the Samsung Galaxy J7 with the model number SM-J700H and running on the Android 5.1 Lollipop software update.
When it comes to Samsung devices, we usually get root access by flashing a package made by Chainfire under the CF-Auto-Root name. The CF-Auto-Root tool can be flashed directly from the Odin flashing tool and without the need of the bootloadert to be unlocked and a custom recovery installed. Things with the Samsung Galaxy J7 with the model number SM-J700H are a bit different. You cannot use the CF-Auto-Root tool because there is no package released for it, so we are installing a custom recovery first and then getting our root access by installing the SuperSU file.
Here is how that is done:
Files You Need
- You must have a custom recovery installed on the Samsung Galaxy J7 smartphone before you can use this guide.
- Download the SuperSU package you need for your J7 device from this page.
Rooting the Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700H running Android 5.1 Lollipop
- Download the SuperSU package from the files section above directly to the computer and drag it over to the desktop from its default downloads location.
- Connect the Samsung Galaxy J7 to the computer with the USB cable and copy the SuperSU over to the internal storage SD card on the device. You want the SuperSU to be at the root of the SD card and not hidden in one of the sub folder. The root generally means keep it in the topmost folder so you can find it later.
- Unplug the J7 handset from the computer once you have the SuperSU on the device’s SD card.
- Boot the Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700H to recovery mode. The J7 device will now reach the custom recovery you had installed earlier.
- Take the NANDroid backup option by tapping the ‘Backup’ button from the main menu of your recovery.
- Tap the ‘Install’ option and follow the prompts to upload the SuperSU from your device’s SD card.
- Swipe the bottom of the display on the slider to confirm you want to install the SuperSU from the SD card.
- Choose the ‘Reboot System’ option from the main recovery menu.
In conclusion, your Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700H should now be rooted with a custom recovery installed. There are no limits as to what you do on the J7 handset from here on out. Feel free to check out any custom ROMs, custom kernels, root-requiring apps, taking complete backups all the time without the need of any adb commands and more.
