Rooting the Android operating system is usually done by following a guide similar to what we have below where we have a file and we flash that file onto a device running Android and it’s done. However, that’s not the only way one can root a device. There are some custom ROMs out there available for a number of devices that can root your device simply by installing that new ROM. In other words, should you install a custom recovery, find a custom ROM, it’s that same ROM that can give your device root access. The Samsung Galaxy A3 is not one of those devices to the best of my understanding, but you should find a few ROMs at least you can install on your device.

The Files You Need

  1. Download the Galaxy A3 rooting package you need from this page.
  2. The bundle in the link above gives you the Odin file you need. However, if that version of Odin doesn’t work, you can download a different Odin version from this page.
  3. Download the Samsung USB Drivers from the Samsung Developers page here.
  4. Applying these steps to root the Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone will void the warranty. You can get the warranty working again if you unroot the A3 device and return to the stock Android ROM.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy A3 SM-A300G

  1. Download the rooting file on the computer and transfer it over to the desktop. It should end up in the Downloads folder by default on your Windows computer. That only changes if you have changed the default Download location. Once you are in the Downloads folder, click and drag it over to the desktop.
  2. Once on the desktop, right-click over the file and select the option that says “extract here” and it will extract the zipped file so you can use the tools inside. You should see the CF-Root file and the Odin file.
  3. Double-click over the Odin file and the Odin user-interface will open on the computer.
  4. On your device, navigate to the Device Options, followed by Switch Off and switch off your smartphone. You can also long-press the Power button and it will turn completely off.
  5. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy A3 smartphone in down load mode by holding the Power and Volume Down + Home buttons at the same time.
  6. Wait until you see the option to press Volume Up from your A3’s display and follow that command.
  7. Once in download mode, connect the Galaxy A3 to the computer using the USB cable.
  8. If you downloaded the Samsung drivers earlier, you should find the ID: COM port turning yellow from the Odin user-interface.
  9. Click the AP or PDA button from the Odin user-interface and browse the desktop for the CF-Root package.
  10. Once the CF-Root package is uploaded and you can see the file string in the Odin app on the computer, click the Start button.
  11. Wait between 5 and 15 minutes for the Odin flashing tool to complete rooting your device. You know Odin is done when your device reboots and Odin shows you the pass message found in the message box.
  12. You can start installing apps from the Google Play Store that weren’t available for your device before now that you have root access. You might choose to begin with the root checker app to check the rooting guide worked.
  13. One cool app that is available for rooted Samsung Galaxy A3 users is the SetCPU app. The SetCPU application can change the way your CPU works to give better performance or battery. You can decide which way you want to set the CPU!

That’s all.
